Aircraft Hire/Leasing:
This outlines all requirements and expectations for hiring aircraft from Gateway Aviation Limited.
1. General Terms

The hirer agrees to operate the aircraft in accordance with all applicable CAA New Zealand Civil Aviation Rules, and the terms of this agreement.

Gateway Aviation reserves the right to decline or terminate any hire agreement at its sole discretion.
2. Pilot Requirements
-
The aircraft may only be operated by a pilot who:
-
Holds a current NZ or validated foreign PPL or higher licence.
-
Meets all medical and currency requirements for the intended flight.
-
Has been approved by Gateway Aviation and completed a type rating/familiarisation flight where required.
-

No unauthorised persons may operate or manipulate the controls.
3. Pre-Flight Responsibilities
-
The hirer must:
-
Conduct a full pre-flight inspection in accordance with the aircraft’s POH.
-
Ensure a valid weather briefing has been obtained (MetService/IFIS or equivalent).
-
Confirm fuel levels, oil, and aircraft serviceability before flight.
-
Log flight details and hours accurately in the aircraft logbook.
-
4. Insurance & Liability
-
The aircraft is fully insured under Gateway Aviation’s policy.
-
Excess: In the event of an incident or accident, the hirer is liable for up to $5,000 NZD or the stated excess, whichever is greater.
-
Any unauthorised or negligent operation may void coverage, in which case full repair/replacement liability falls to the hirer.
-
The hirer is not to carry out commercial activities, or training flights unless authorised in writing.
5. Flight Restrictions

The aircraft must only be flown:
-
In VFR or IFR conditions as appropriate to the pilot's qualifications and aircraft equipment.
-
Within New Zealand airspace unless otherwise authorised.
-
To/from certified or approved airstrips, with prior approval for remote/grass fields.
-
By day or night, provided the pilot is current and legal for night operations.
-
6. Ground Operations
-
Aircraft must be:
-
Parked securely with chocks and tie-downs.
-
Covered if weather protection is provided.
-
Never left unattended running.
-
7. Unplanned Maintenance or Incidents
-
Any mechanical fault must be reported immediately to Gateway Aviation.
-
No maintenance or repair is to be carried out by the hirer without written consent.

In the event of an incident/accident, the pilot must:
-
Follow CAA Rule Part 12 incident reporting procedures.
-
Inform Gateway Aviation as soon as practicable.
-
8. Booking & Cancellations
-
All bookings are subject to aircraft availability and confirmation.
-
Cancellations within 24 hours may incur a 50% hire charge at Gateway Aviation’s discretion.
-
Flights cancelled due to weather incur no fee if mutually agreed.
9. Fuel & Charges
-
The hirer is responsible for refuelling the aircraft to full tanks post-flight unless arranged otherwise.
-
Landing fees, air navigation charges, or parking fees incurred away from base are the hirer’s responsibility.
10. Authority & Termination
-
Gateway Aviation retains full authority over aircraft usage.
-
Breach of these terms may result in immediate hire cancellation without refund.
-
Gateway Aviation reserves the right to ground or repossess the aircraft at any time in the interest of safety, compliance, or protection of assets.
Aircraft Hangarage & Storage
This outlines all requirements and expectations for storing aircraft with Gateway Aviation Limited.
1. Agreement Overview
This agreement outlines the terms under which Gateway Aviation provides short-term aircraft hangarage and storage services at Timaru Airport. This applies to rentals under 30 days, unless extended in writing.
2. Hangar Specifications

Size: 21m x 18m
-
Door Clearance: 4.5m high
-
Facilities: Secure, powered, LED lighting, ventilated, bird-proofed
-
Location: Timaru Airport, leased and operated by Gateway Aviation
3. Aircraft & Owner Information
The owner agrees to provide:

Full aircraft details (Make/Model, Reg. number, MTOW, wingspan)
-
Proof of insurance coverage
-
Emergency contact and authority to move/relocate aircraft if required
4. Hangar Use & Responsibilities
-
Hangar space is allocated by Gateway Aviation at its discretion.
-
Clients must:
-
Ensure aircraft is towed, parked, and secured safely.
-
Provide suitable covers and tie-downs if stored externally by arrangement.
-
Allow Gateway Aviation to move the aircraft if necessary for operational reasons.
-
-
No maintenance is to be carried out in the hangar without approval.
5. Short-Term Stay & Conditions
-
Maximum continuous storage period without written renewal: 30 days
-
Use of space beyond 30 days requires a separate long-term agreement
6. Liability & Insurance
-
Gateway Aviation provides basic building insurance for the hangar, but:
-
The owner is fully responsible for aircraft insurance.
-
Gateway Aviation accepts no liability for damage, theft, weather impact, or third-party actions.
-

The client agrees to indemnify Gateway Aviation against any claims arising from the storage.
7. Payment & Fees
-
Pricing varies based on aircraft type and size:
-
Cessna 182, Piper Cherokee 235, Seneca, or similar, See booking page for rates
-
Larger aircraft: quoted upon request
-
-
Payment is required in advance unless otherwise arranged.
8. Termination
-
Either party may terminate this agreement with 48 hours’ notice.
-
Gateway Aviation reserves the right to remove the aircraft from hangar space for operational needs, with notice provided where possible.
9. General Conditions
-
No flammable substances, loose parts, or batteries may be stored unless approved.
-
Hangar access is restricted to authorised persons only.
-
All use is subject to Timaru Airport rules and CAA compliance.
-
By entering into this agreement, the client agrees to all conditions set out above. A signed or digital acceptance form will be required prior to access.
